ASHRAE UK Modeller of the Year Award 2024!
Renjith Jayapalan Nair, a valued member of DesignBuilder’s team, received the prestigious ‘Modeller of the Year’ award from ASHRAE President Ginger Scoggins P.E. at last week’s ASHRAE UK 2024 Awards. Since joining us in 2021, Renjith has distinguished himself as a domain expert in EnergyPlus and DesignBuilder simulation. His proactive approach to knowledge-sharing extends way beyond DesignBuilder’s customers, as he volunteers on committees for ASHRAE, CIBSE, IBPSA World, IBPSA England, IBPSA-USA, and also mentors students in Solar Decathlon competitions.
Renjith’s outstanding contribution to the industry has been duly recognised by the ASHRAE UK Awards panel. His dedication and proficiency are evident in his contribution, making him an invaluable member of DesignBuilder’s team and a pleasure to work with. Congratulations, Renjith, on a well-deserved award!
New Support Platform
DesignBuilder Support has transitioned to a new online platform with a fresh new look! The new platform can be accessed from our website Support menu as before or directly using the same URL: https://support.designbuilder.co.uk

Top Tip: Ghost Tool to Access Hidden Blocks
Ever wanted to access hidden blocks in your model? Then you’ll love our ‘Ghost selected block’ tool! It allows you to set blocks to be semi-transparent, simplifying the selection and editing of obscured areas in your model. To ‘ghost’ one or more blocks:
- At building level, hold the <Ctrl> key and click with the mouse to select the Building blocks and/or Component blocks to be ghosted.
- Click on the ‘Ghost selected blocks’ toolbar icon.
Once in a ghosted state, blocks cannot be selected in the Edit screen, and you can click ‘through’ them to access the blocks behind. Now you can apply any of the block geometry edit tools available at building level to the previously obscured blocks, such as ‘Drag face’, ‘Cutting tool’, ‘Add surface’, ‘Boolean’ etc, or simply navigate to a block to set model inputs or add partitions.
To ‘un-ghost’ blocks, simply click ‘Show all blocks’ on the toolbar at building level.
